How to improve the cooling performance of industrial control computer?
The rationality of the thermal management is a crucial factor related to the stable work of the industrial control computer. Excessive temperature will cause instability of the industrial computer system and accelerate the aging of parts. With the continuous development of the CPU frequency, the widespread use of high speed hard disks, and the frequent replacement of high performance graphics cards, the thermal issues inside the industrial computer has been paid more and more attention.
At present, most industrial control cases use dual-program interactive cooling: the external low temperature air is sucked into the case by the high speed ball fan at the front of the case and the cooling holes on both sides of the case, and the air flow passes through the hard disk rack, north and south bridge chips, various boards, and north bridge chips. Reaching near the CPU, after passing through the CPU heatsink, part of the hot air is drawn out of the case by two high speed ball exhaust fans at the rear of the case, and the other part is exhausted out of the case through the power supply fan. The industrial control case adopts ball fans, which have the advantages of large air volume, high rotation speed, less heat generation, long service cycle, low noise, and efficient heat dissipation performance.
In order to dissipate heat for high speed hard drives, some manufacturers install additional air intake fans at the front of the drive bay, which not only increases the air flow in the case, but also directly dissipates heat from the hard drives. Another is to move the traditional hard disk installation position down so that the hard disk is in contact with the bottom of the case. It not only utilizes the chassis bottom plate to enhance the heat dissipation of the hard disk, but also allows the fresh low temperature air to prioritize to dissipate the heat of the hard disk after entering the case, which greatly reduces the heat of the hard disk and prolongs the service life of the hard disk.
As the power of the industrial computer CPU and other components are increasing, the heat sink design should satisfy the thermal requirements correspondingly. For the large industrial control equipment, we usually use heat pipes or vapor chamber to design a high power performance thermal solution, and even design a liquid cooling cold plate for the industrial control equipment.
