Manufacturing process of thermal heasink

There are many ways to make the heatsink we need, but how to choose a suitable manufacture method is very important for the balance of thermal performance and production cost.

     1. CNC machinig : there are many kinds of machining processes, from non lubricated cutting to lubricated cutting, from high-speed cutting to laser cutting, from turning, drilling to milling and grinding. In the forming process of heat sink, in order to obtain some special and fine shapes, cutting process needs to be used.

   2. Aluminum extrusion: aluminum extrusion technology simply means that the aluminum ingot is heated to about 520 ~ 540 ℃ at high temperature, and the aluminum liquid flows through the extrusion die with grooves under high pressure to make the primary embryo of the heat sink, and then the primary embryo of the heat sink is cut and grooved to make the common heat sink.

3. Skiving: a unique metal forming process, which is expected to be widely used in the integrated forming process of copper heat sink.  The skiving process enables high density fin  and thin fin heat sink geometries for optimal thermal performance. By packing as much fin surface area into a given volume, skived fin heat sinks have greater heat transfer than other single piece construction heat sinks such as extruded aluminum heat sinks.

4. Metal powder spray forming: metal powder spray forming heat sink is mainly made of materials with high melting point and high heat conduction (such as copper). Its processing method is: metal powder is sprayed at high speed to directly make the primary embryo of heat sink, and then sintered at high temperature to make the finished product with considerable strength and density.

 5. Aluminum die casting: a widely used processing technology of single aluminum alloy products. The manufacturing process is as follows: melt the aluminum alloy ingot into liquid, fill it into the model, use the die-casting machine for one-time die-casting molding, and then make the monomer heat sink after cooling and subsequent treatment. Stamping and shearing: stamping and shearing are familiar processes. Many of our daily necessities and computer accessories such as chassis are based on this.

With the production technology improved and the thermal market  demand increase, there will be more and more mature manufacture process of heatsinks, which will provide better support for the different thermal solutions.
