The Significant Increase in Computing Power Demand Drives The Development Of Liquid Cooling

Server equipment is the main carrier of computing power resources, while IDC (Data Center) is the place where centralized ICT equipment (server equipment, network equipment, storage equipment) is provided with an operating environment, requiring continuous power supply, cooling and heat dissipation for ICT equipment. Traditional air cooling technology uses air as a medium for heat dissipation, which has defects such as low heat dissipation density, poor heat dissipation capacity, and easy formation of local hotspots; Liquid cooling uses liquid as the medium for heat dissipation. Due to the volume specific heat capacity of liquid being 1000-3500 times that of air, the convective heat transfer coefficient of liquid is 10-40 times that of air. Under the same spatial conditions, the cooling capacity of liquid cooling is much higher than that of air.
With the continuous growth of AI's demand for computing power, the hot issues under traditional air-cooled cooling modules are significant, and the penetration rate of liquid cooling will significantly increase in 2024. As the unit heat dissipation cost continues to decrease, the TCO advantage of liquid cooling is gradually becoming significant, which may accelerate the transformation of old air-cooled data centers into liquid cooled data centers, and the penetration rate of liquid cooling continues to increase.
