Application of liquid cooling technology in optical transmission equipment

Digital coherent optical transmission technology is an optical transmission technology that maximizes transmission performance by combining coherent reception methods that utilize the characteristics of light waves to improve reception sensitivity with ultra high-speed digital signal processing. According to Fujitsu, the transmission speed of the new technology is equivalent to transmitting six 25 GB Blu ray discs per second.

Fujitsu has applied three unique technologies, namely "terabit optical transmission system technology", "liquid cooling technology for optical transmission equipment", and "optical network monitoring technology using machine learning", to this new optical transmission technology, and has simultaneously achieved high-speed, high-capacity optical transmission and low device power consumption.
It is reported that traditional optical transmission equipment uses air cooling technology to cool the system, while Fujitsu utilized its accumulation in the supercomputer field to apply liquid cooling technology to optical transmission equipment for the first time in the world. Liquid cooling technology improves cooling efficiency while maintaining the essential high reliability and maintainability of communication equipment in the long term, reducing power consumption to the world's lowest power consumption of 120mW per transmission capacity (Gbps), and reducing carbon dioxide emissions of the entire system by about 70%.
