AI acceleratethe Growth Of Liquid Cooled Servers

The AI craze is surging, and the era of computing power is rapidly approaching. As a computing infrastructure, servers are developing towards high-performance, low energy consumption, and diverse computing, driving the prosperity of server segmentation. On October 12th, according to the tracking report of China's semi annual liquid cooled server market (first half of 2023) released by International Data Corporation (IDC), the Chinese liquid cooled server market will continue to maintain rapid growth in 2023. The market size of liquid cooled servers in China reached 660 million US dollars in the first half of 2023, a year-on-year increase of 283.3%. It is expected to reach 1.51 billion US dollars for the entire year of 2023.

AI computing

Behind the explosive growth of liquid cooled servers is the continuous increase in computing power demand under the AI wave, which in turn drives the expansion of computing power infrastructure such as large data centers. As a supporting infrastructure for big data centers, the demand for servers has also increased. However, with the booming development of data centers, their high energy consumption has brought about carbon emissions issues, which poses challenges to the development requirements of green computing power. According to data from the National Energy Administration, the power consumption of data centers in China exceeded 200 billion kilowatt hours in 2020, accounting for 2.7% of the total electricity consumption in the country, setting a new historical high. IDC predicts that data center power consumption will account for over 5% of the total social power consumption in 2024. Energy conservation and emission reduction in data centers are imperative.

To reduce PUE value, the development of liquid cooling technology has become inevitable, and as an important component of data centers, liquid cooling servers have become the vanguard of computing power "carbon reduction". Data shows that liquid cooling systems save approximately 30% to 50% of electricity compared to traditional air cooling systems. In addition, liquid cooled servers can eliminate differences in altitude, region, and temperature, ensuring operational efficiency and performance, and have the ability to scale up.
In this context, liquid cooled servers not only have a fierce development, but also have broad prospects. IDC stated that an increasing number of mainstream IT equipment manufacturers have publicly stated that they will increase their research and development efforts and accelerate the iteration speed of liquid cooling products. In the future, the Chinese liquid cooling server market will continue to maintain high-speed growth. IDC predicts that from 2022 to 2027, the compound annual growth rate of China's liquid cooled server market will reach 54.7%, and the market size will reach 8.9 billion US dollars in 2027.

AI liquid cooling

AI computing power has put forward higher requirements for refrigeration equipment and technology in data centers. Traditional air cooling technology presents bottlenecks in high heat density scenarios, while liquid cooling technology will effectively solve heat dissipation pressure and energy-saving challenges with characteristics such as ultra-high energy efficiency and ultra-high heat density, becoming a new development trend in the industry. Liquid cooling is expected to become a high growth new track. It is not difficult to see that with the continuous evolution of AI technology and the steady promotion of national level strategies such as "dual carbon", servers in the era of computing power and liquid cooled servers in its sub fields will be driven by high demand, and are expected to become a high growth track with broad market space.
