Introduction of skived fin heatsink

     Skiving fin, also known as skived fin heatsink, uses skivingtechnology to form fins one by one on the whole metal material such as aluminum or copper block, with a certain fin thickness, fin height and gap, and then cut the overall shape to obtain customized fins. Skiving radiator has obvious advantages that other types of radiator do not have. They can customize ultra-high density fins with light weight, high heat dissipation efficiency, flexible shape and large overall size. They are widely used in many applications, such as inverters, communication equipment, electronic products, LED lights and so on.

Main manufacturing process characteristics:

1. The raw material of skiving heatsinks is the whole metal block (aluminum or copper), and the finished heatsinkis also integrated.

2. The common raw material of aluminum skived fin heatsinkis 1060 Aluminum alloy. Its good deformation is very suitable for skived fin technology.

3. The skived fin radiator has the same fin thickness, fin height and spacing. These parameters can be adjusted according to actual needs.

4. The semi-finished skiving radiator is cut, deburred and further processed into finished parts.

Skiving process

Main advantages of skived fin heatsink:

1. Since the skived fin heatsink  is made of the whole module, it has no connection points. Therefore, there is no loss of heat dissipation efficiency, so as to achieve high thermal performance and excellent thermal cooling  performance. Moreover, it will not loosen or fall off, so as to improve the reliability of the final product.

2. The skived fin can be very thin and dense on the radiator, so as to obtain a high aspect ratio that cannot be achieved by extrusion radiator or adhesive fin radiator. In this way, the skived fin can dissipate heat more effectively than other radiators of the same size or weight.

3. Due to the above characteristics, the skiving process can produce a lighter radiator, but the heat dissipation performance is good. They can be used in some weight limited equipment.

4. Compared with other radiators, the radiator made by skived fin technology has less restrictions on size, can produce larger size and stronger heat dissipation capacity.

5. Skived radiators do not need to invest too much in the mold. They can customize different external dimensions with CNC and other processing methods.

Shortage of Skived fin heatsink:

1. Cutting and machining make the production process of skived fin radiator more complex than other radiators, and they need more processing time. Therefore, the cost of skived radiator is higher than that of radiator manufactured by other processes.

2. Skiving heatsinks are inefficient, so large orders usually require a longer production lead time.

3. The fins of skived heatsinks are not as strong as other radiators (such as extruded heatsinks). This makes them unsuitable for applications that require good strength on the radiator.
