New energy power battery liquid cooling technology introduction

As new energy vehicles are becoming more and more popular, many owners of ternary lithium battery versions have found a problem. In hot weather, when the vehicle has not started, the front cabin has generated sound. How does this sound come from?

The answer is that the vehicle has initiated a cooling program to dissipate heat for the power battery. Today, this article will introduce the working principle of liquid cooling technology for new energy vehicle power battery in detail.

As we know, the power battery of new energy vehicles can be simply divided into two categories: ternary lithium battery and iron phosphate lithium battery.

Compared with lithium iron phosphate batteries,  ternary lithium battery energy density is higher, the advantages of the same volume of power battery capacity is bigger, but the shortcoming is also very obvious, it's very sensitive to the temperature, which needs higher security and protection, which is why only the ternary lithium battery version of the models have the cause of the surface thermal cooling system.

As the beginning of the article mentioned, how does the vehicle automatically turn on the heat dissipation program? This is because when the ambient temperature is too high, when the power battery detects the battery temperature exceeding 35 ° C. In order to ensure the safety of the power battery, the vehicle will automatically start the cooling fan and electric water pump to cool down the power battery.

So, how does the power battery be cooled? When we open the front cabin, we will find that there is an expansion kettle installed with red liquid, which is the cooling liquid for cooling control, electric drive system and power battery cooling. The battery liquid cooling technology consists of an expansion kettle, condenser, cooling fan, electronic water pump, three -way solenoid valve, battery liquid cold pipe and other components. When the vehicle needs to cool, the cooling liquid in the expansion kettle enters the condenser at the front of the vehicle through the pipe, and then removes the temperature of the cooling fluid inside the heat sink to further reduce the temperature. Then the cold zone liquid enters the electronic water pump, and controls the speed required for the water pump through the vehicle CAN line to further control the cooling efficiency. The coolant after the electronic water pump is pressed into the electrical control and the electric drive system for heat exchange. The coolant from the electrical control system can be flowed to the power battery pack or return to the condenser through the three -way battery valve control.

When the internal temperature of the power battery pack does not need to cool, the vehicle cooling system is cooled by small cycles, that is, the above is only the cooling and electric drive system mentioned. When the BMS detects the temperature of the power battery exceeding the threshold, the three -way solenoid valve opens the water channel flowing to the power battery. Take away excess heat to achieve the ideal working temperature inside the battery pack. At this time, the coolant can ensure the internal temperature of the entire battery pack, and the coolant flows to the condenser through the water outlet to the condenser for the next cycle.

Compared with the traditional wind and cold heat dissipation system adopted by general models, the advantages of power battery fluid cooling technology are more obvious, the heat dissipation efficiency is higher, and the heat dissipation balance will be better. Of course, due to higher process requirements, the corresponding manufacturing costs will be higher.
