Nokia Promotes Cold Plate Liquid Cooling Technology To Achieve Energy Conservation And Emission Reduction in 5G Base Stations
Recently, China Mobile Design Institute and Henan Mobile collaborated with Shanghai Nokia Bell to achieve the industry's first cold plate liquid cooled base station outdoor trial commercial use in Nanyang, Henan. Compared with other liquid cooling technologies that outsource liquid cooling casings, the cold plate liquid cooling base station is truly liquid cooled, with higher thermal conductivity efficiency and stronger energy-saving ability. Currently, wireless communication base station equipment usually uses air cooling for heat dissipation, and the computer room needs to use air conditioning to cool down the heat generated by the base station.
Compared to traditional air cooling technology, liquid cooling has the following advantages:
1. Heat takes away more: the same volume of liquid takes away nearly 4000 times more heat than the same volume of air;
2. Faster temperature transfer: the thermal conductivity of liquids is 25 times that of air;
3. Better mute effect: When the same heat dissipation level is reached, the liquid cooling noise level is 20-35 decibels lower than the air cooling noise level;
4. More energy-efficient: The refrigeration system saves 30% -50% of electricity, and the discharged heat energy can be reused, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 80%.
As a major global wireless base station supplier, Nokia had already deployed the world's first 5G liquid cooled base station in the Elisa headquarters building in Finland as early as 2020, while reusing the heat generated by the base station for the production of hot water and heating.
