At the beginning, Nvidia is just a chip manufacturer, so various heat sinks are designed by the graphics card plant to attract the consumers, after a while that AMD and Nvidia took actions and released new graphics cards (architectures) in order to expand their influence. It has a series of advantages such as high thermal conductivity, excellent isothermal property, heat flux density variability, heat flux direction reversibility, long-distance heat transfer, constant temperature characteristics (controllable heat pipe), thermal diode and thermal switch performance, etc. The heat sink composed of heat pipes has the advantages of high heat transfer efficiency, compact structure and small fluid resistance loss.
Copper plate: Becasue of copper has much better thermal conductivity than alumiunum, so usually we use a copper plate to contact the GPU to improve the heat conductivity which can transfer the heat from GPU faster than other metals and cool down the GPU.
