How to dissipate the heat from the server

  Many people are racking their brains for the heat dissipation of their computers. Ordinary computers are single-core CPUs + a better graphics card, and the power consumption is about 500W.


  Personal computers are hard to dissipate heat, so how do servers in a super-large cluster dissipate heat? Different from personal PCs, servers, especially rack-mounted servers, due to their small size and densely spaced equipment, in addition to high requirements for single-machine heat dissipation efficiency, they also have additional requirements for the design of heat dissipation channels. If the design of the heat dissipation channel is unscientific, it may cause local heat buildup in the server.


Space air-conditioning heat dissipation: The compressor is used to reduce the ambient temperature of the confined space to achieve the purpose of cooling. A server with a closed chassis usually does not use this heat dissipation method. If the heat dissipation efficiency in the cabinet is poor, it cannot guarantee the effective heat dissipation of the server.

Active air supply and heat dissipation: front and rear air supply and heat dissipation are common, and the use of active air supply and heat dissipation requires consideration of the design of the hot aisle suppression area. The high-temperature exhaust gas discharged from the chassis needs a hot air channel for rapid discharge, and cannot be mixed with the server's ambient air, which places high requirements on the design of the server.

Active air supply and heat dissipation are also divided into bottom air supply and side air supply, etc., bottom air supply and side air supply are more common in cabinet servers; while 1U servers usually install fans in the middle of the chassis, and exhaust air from the front to the back.


Liquid heat dissipation: Liquid heat dissipation is divided into two situations. One is that the heat dissipation fluid flows through the important parts of the server through a fixed pipe, and the liquid with high specific heat capacity is used to take away the heat and dissipate heat outside the server; instead, the entire server is immersed in an insulating liquid. Using the insulating properties and low boiling point characteristics of oil to take away heat, the disadvantage of this kind of heat dissipation is that oil cooling takes less time than water cooling.
