Copper Skived Fin Heat Sink With CNC Machining

  A skiving fin heatsink is manufactured by utilizing skiving process which uses a blade to slice the copper sheets, bend them vertically to form the skived fins, and interlock them with designed space to build a finished copper skived fin heat sink.For a heatsink application, skiving technology makes the manufacturing of ultra thin fins is possible, and we have produced fins as thin as .008”.  The process allows high aspect ratios that provide greater surface area for maximum heat dissipation. We typically use this process for copper Skived heatsinks, however Aluminum Skiving is possible. As this is very easy to set up, typically there are minimal setup fees which allow for rapid prototyping of new designs. It is possible to machine additional features after the skiving process has been completed, but requires an experience to avoid stresses on the heatsink.

  A copper skived heatsink offers great thermal performance compared with other heat sink process as it offers a thiner fins, higher density and higher aspect ratio. As the skiving fins are made from a single block of copper metal, so it has lower thermal resistance than other heat sink manufacturing process such as stamping fins or folded fins which have to be soldered with metal base. This combination of high aspect ratio thin fins with no thermal resistance interface produces optimum cooling performance in high airflow applications.
