Copper heat sink VS Aluminum heat sink
Heat sink plays a vital role in electronics and other applications, If the heat generated by the electronic products is not dissipated in time, it may make the system or device to heat up too fast then the temperature of the device is too high, which will cause operating failures and even burn the machine. so to ensure the good operation of the generator set, the performance of the heat sink must be excellent and stable. At present, in the thermal market, there are two main kinds of heat sink materials, one is copper heat sink and the other is aluminum heat sink. So, is there a difference between the two kinds of heat sinks, and what is the difference?
First of all, the copper heat sink has an excellent heat asorbtion and transmitting ability, but the heat dissipation is slower and the cost is more expensive than aluminum alloy; while the aluminum radiator dissipates heat faster, but it is easy to oxidize. If the thermal performance is required for high power applications, the large copper heat sink is a better choice.
Secondly, aluminum radiators have fast heat dissipation ability; copper heat sinks are just the opposite, but copper heat sinks have a longer service life, while the service life of aluminum heat sinks is much shorter. In terms of thermal conductivity, copper is relatively better. If the temperature is high, aluminum heat sinks are more likely to be oxidized, thus affecting the heat dissipation performance.
Thirdly, in terms of thermal conductivity, copper is indeed much faster than aluminum, but in terms of heat dissipation, aluminum is faster than copper. If you are using a copper heat sink, you need to increase the fan speed and power to achieve the same cooling effect as aluminum. Therefore, for most electronic manufacturers, aluminum heat sinks are generally the first choice because of cost considerations. And only in some high-end applications will consider the use of copper radiators.
