How to choose LED cooling products? How much do you know about LED cooling solutions?

LED products will be applied to the control of the circuit board when in use, and a lot of heat will be generated when the product is running. If the heat is not dissipated in time, it may lead to the shortened service life of the circuit board.

In order to solve this problem, we found that the heat generated by the LED chip is dissipated by its metal heat sink, first through the solder to the PCB of the aluminum substrate, and then through the thermal paste to the aluminum heat sink, so the heat dissipation of the LED actually includes two parts: heat conduction and heat dissipation.

The following are about the cooling method of each part of the LED:

Aluminum fins: This is the most common heat dissipation method, using aluminum fins as part of the housing to increase the heat dissipation area.

Thermally conductive plastic shell: Fill the plastic shell with thermally interface material during injection molding to increase the thermal conductivity and heat dissipation capacity of the plastic shell.

Air hydrodynamic heat dissipation: Air hydrodynamics uses the shape of the lamp housing to create convection air, which is the lowest cost way to enhance heat dissipation.

Heat pipe cooling technology: The heat pipe uses heat pipe technology to conduct heat from the LED chip to the shell fins. This is a common design in large LED such as street LED light.

Surface radiation heat dissipation treatment The surface of the lamp housing is treated with radiation heat dissipation: simply apply radiation heat dissipation paint, which can take the heat away from the surface of the lamp housing by radiation.

Between the heat sink and LED heat source, we usually use thermal interface material to fill the gap between the heat sink and heat source which can significantly reduce the thermal resistance and improve the thermal performance.
