Heat sink performance is determined by heat conduction and heat dissipation, so when design a high performance CPU cooler, heat pipe is a part of it as it is a great conductor of heat, heat pipe is a two phase thermal device, the heat conductivity of heat pipe is over 1000 times than copper, so using heat pipe could significantly improve the thermal performance and save the cost. In this design, we utilize copper block to contact the CPU as copper is great thermal conductor metal which can remove the heat from CPU rapidly and spread to heat pipes. When the heat from the CPU is conducted and transported by copper block and heat pipes, we need fins to dissipate it, for the fins, we typically choose aluminum to be the material, as aluminum is more cost effective, lightweight, and has better heat dissipation performance than copper.
