Copper welding heat sink is designed to weld the copper fins and copper plates together by soldering paste. As we all know that copper has an excellent thermal conductivity, so for high power devices, copper is the prior material selection for heat sink design. The fins can be copper folded fin, or zipper fin, the plate is abosolutely chosen copper to contact the heat source as copper can absorb and spread the heat from the applications rapidly. Also we can design some heat pipes to solder with the fins and base to improve the thermal performance as heat pipe is a founctional thermal device which can spread the heat much faster than any solid metal. So copper heat sink for welding is very common in high power applications.
How is the thermal effect of the soldering heat sink? Soldering is an important process for heat pipe heat sinks or other heat sink assemblies. It has high power, reliable cooling function and long service life make welding heat sink widely used on telecommunication equipment and large industrial machines. As an important cooling device, the heat pipe can be flexibly designed by four, six or ten. Welding can not only fix the heat pipe, but also play a role in transmitting heat. Now let me introduce the advantages of copper welding heat sinks and the classification of welding heat sinks based on different materials.
Advantages of brazed heat sinks:
1. It can be manufactured to high-density heat sink, larger heat dissipation area and light weight. For a soldering heatsink, grooves can be machined on the base plate and the heatsink fins can be inserted into the grooves for soldering. Fins can reach to 1mm in density and 150mm in height.
2. The plate can be processed in complex ways and can be embedded in a heat pipe or a vapor chamber, which greatly increases the average temperature.
3. The surface of the copper welding heat sink will not be oxidized by medium temperature processing.
4. The copper shape of the soldering heat sink is flexible, easily to manufacture the location of the mounting hole.
5. The mold cost is low, and it can be mass-produced quickly from micro heat sinks to large heat sinks.
6. High reliability, has been widely used in IT equipment and telecommunication equipment.
7. Surface treatment, copper can be welded after nickel plating and copper wash, and red copper can be welded after derusting and degreasing.
The fins can be folded fins, L-shaped fins, pierced fins, or fins with heat pipes, and the materials are generally AL6063, AL6061, C1100, etc. According to different materials, welding radiators can be classified into copper welding radiators, copper brazed radiators, copper-aluminum composite brazed radiators, finned welding radiators, and heat pipe brazed radiators. According to the process, welding heat sinks can be classified into high temperature welding and low temperature welding. For medium temperature soldering, the heat sink requires 160-170 degree soldering temperature. The commonly used welding process is low-temperature brazing. The heat sink temperature of low-temperature welding is between 110-135 degrees, which is basically not deformed. It can be processed with high precision and can be used with any equipment.
